NMMS Scholarship:- A scholarship program financed centrally is the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme for Economically Weaker Section Students, or NMMS). It is run by the Department of School Education & Literacy of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is intended to give financial aid to worthy students from socioeconomically challenged families. By providing a scholarship of INR 12,000 per year, NMMS encourages underprivileged kids to pursue their secondary education. When the MCM scholarship is activated in November of each year, about 100,000 scholarships are given to worthy students.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Department of School Education and Literacy has announced the 2023 NMMS Scholarship. The National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Programme is the official name of the NMMS scholarship. Socioeconomic incentives will be given to worthy students from low-income families as part of this scholarship program to reduce class 8 dropout rates, which are a function of the socioeconomic circumstances of the pupils. Objective

The NMMS Scholarship was established in May 2008 to encourage gifted and underprivileged students to finish their secondary and post-secondary education to lower the percentage of these students who drop out of school after class 8. Students in grades 9 through 12 participate in two rounds of state-level selection exams each year to be eligible for the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship.

Awards

Each year, NMMS awards a total of 100,000 scholarships to selected students at the rate of INR 12,000 per year, or INR 1,000 per month. The State Bank of India (SBI) pays the scholarship sum in full under the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship. The money is immediately deposited into the student accounts via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The population of each state and the number of students enrolled in classes 7 and 8 decide how many scholarships are awarded to each state and UT. The details of the NMMS amount are indicated below.

  • The class 9 kids receive their scholarship money all at once, which is INR 12,000 for the academic year.
  • The scholarship will be renewed yearly till the student completes their Higher Secondary level of education (Class 12) if the candidate is promoted to a higher class each year.

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS Scholarship

Three variables determine eligibility for the NMMS scholarship selection test: academic qualification, financial status, and place of residence. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • For the academic year 2023–2024, students who pass the NMMSS Exam 2023 will be able to apply online through the NSP Portal for the Fresh Registration of Class 9th Scholarship.
  • Students who pass the NMMSS exam in 2022 can apply on the NSP portal for the renewal of their class 10 scholarship.
  • Students who pass the NMMSS exam in 2021 can apply on the NSP portal for the renewal of their class 11 scholarship.
  • Students who pass the 2020 NMMSS exam will be able to apply on the NSP portal for the renewal of their class 12 scholarship.
  • This program is available to eighth-grade students enrolled in government, local government, and government-aided schools.
  • The total annual income of the parents, from all sources combined, shall not exceed Rs. 3,50,000. The Chandigarh Administration’s Parental Income Certificate must be attached to the application.
  • Be aware that the NMMS program does not offer scholarships to students enrolled in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) or Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV).
  • For consideration of scholarship continuing in higher secondary school, the candidate must score at least 60% on the class 10 board exam.
  • The recipient of the scholarship must have passed class 11 on their first try with a minimum score of 55% or equal to be eligible to continue earning it in class 12. Students who fall under the SC/ST category are eligible for a 5% grade relaxation.

How to apply for the NMMS scholarship online

Students must ensure that they meet all requirements for this MCM scholarship to be eligible to apply for NMMS. After that, candidates can use NSP to submit an online scholarship application. The detailed application instructions for completing the NMMS scholarship form are provided below to assist students in completing it without trouble.

  • Initially, the candidates must register as new National Scholarship Portal (NSP) users and complete all required fields.
  • It is advised that candidates for the scholarship begin the application process by supplying scanned copies of all required documentation.
  • The candidate must fill out details such as their educational background, Aadhaar card number, school enrollment number, bank account information, and state of residence.
  • The application ID of the candidate is generated upon enrollment on NSP. This application ID is used for future reference and as a “Login ID” on NSP.
  • Candidates enrolled in classes 9 and 10 must apply under the Pre-Matric scholarship category, while those enrolled in classes 11 and 12 must apply under the Post-Matric scholarship category.
  • When entering personal information such as their name, date of birth, email address, identity data, and cellphone number, applicants must use caution.
  • Save the details as a draft and upload all required papers.
  • The candidate must submit the filled-out application form after making sure all the information is accurate and pertinent.

Requirements for NMMS Scholarship Selection:

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)

With the use of 90 multiple-choice questions covering subjects including analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern recognition, hidden figures, etc., this test evaluates students’ critical thinking and reasoning abilities.

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

The SAT consists of ninety multiple-choice questions covering maths, science, and social studies. These questions are based on the curriculum for classes 7 and 8.

Ans. Students must be enrolled in Class 9 as normal students to get advantages under the NMMS program. They must receive at least 55% of the possible points in the Class 8 exam, or equivalent grades.
